The N90s works with Nikon’s secret TC-16A autofocusing teleconverter of the late 1980s. I kid you not: this 1.6x teleconverter has special optics which are driven by the N90s that allow it to focus manual-focus lenses.

Don’t use DX lenses; they’ll make images with black corners. I’ve shot manual focus AIand AI-slenses on the N90s and they work great. Manual focus lenses work, meter and focus precisely. The only gotcha is that you can’t see the set aperture in the finder; you have to know it by feel or look on the lens.
